An August Quickie (council meeting, Aug 5)

Every council meeting should be like this one. Virtually nothing happened and we were out in less that 45 minutes. The important meeting happens tomorrow.
Ash Creek Special Services
Ash Creek Special Services (wastewater) updates were presented by Mike Chandler. I don’t remember Mike mentioning anything really significant until he mentioned that the Solara wastewater pump would connect at Silver Cliffs. (Devil’s Hole) My left eye began twitching and I suddenly felt tightness in my chest. My wife, sensing that something was horribly wrong with me and forever the optimist- reassured me that our health insurance premiums were paid up to date.
Solara, for those of you who don’t know, is that gawd awful development trying to get annexed into Toquerville. Although it is across the highway from Leeds- Leeds had the good sense to turn the annexation down. The developer is now trying to sweet talk our council into annexing the project by dangling a few impact fees in front of them. As you most likely know- you as a citizen of Toquerville won’t receive anything for this annexation. Your taxes will not go down. They will go up. Traffic will go up. You will pay for police, fire, prosecutors, water and sewer infrastructure, building inspectors, code enforcement, and maybe even a school. The new parkway into Hurricane will be the old parkway that runs in front of city hall. Moving on…
Assistant City Manager
Darrin LeFevre gave some updates on Westfield Park, Silver Cliffs, Indigo Hills, Firelight, and the new Maverick being built on the other side of the highway in Boulder Ridge.
Business Items
There were 3 business items. One was a conditional use permit for a building that will be 23 feet tall. It passed. There was a small change order for 5700 dollars (electrical) and damaged concrete at Westfield Park. The last item was a notice to dispose of city property.
There was also some talk about the noise ordinance but I don’t remember anything coming of it.
